Segun Olalekan Akanni, a former personal assistant to Aare Ona-Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Aare Ganiyu Adams, has alleged that there was an attempt on his life from a familiar quarters.
Segun revealed this following a save-my-soul message, ‘my life in danger!’ pasted on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
Narrating his experience, the publisher of Drum Online magazine said he was on his way from Ladipo area in the Lagos Mainland and stopped to pick a friend at Gbagada when some guys appeared and descended on him.
Segun claimed that when he managed to escape from his assailants and fled, they started chasing him and shouting ‘thief thief’ for the public to lynch him.
“I was attacked at Gbagada on my way from Ladipo. I was with a friend whom I’d stopped to pick along the road when some boys descended on me with different types of weapons. They chased me until some policemen nearby rescued me and drove me back to where my car was parked. I knew a face among them,” while narrating his ordeal, Segun said he can identify one of his attackers.
Asked if he suspected robbery attempt, the online publisher said he would have suspected robbery attempt but for the fact that he knew one of the faces that attacked him is not robbery.
“It was a plan to assassinate me. Only God saved me. I suspect the attack was from those I know and I have reported the case to the authority and a lot of people,” Segun noted.
He said that ‘some groups’ were planning to release a press statement on the matter on Thursday.
