Court Affirms Ondo LG Poll To Hold April 22, 2016.

Federal High Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has struck out two cases instituted by the All Progressives Congress in the state.

Olusegun Mimiko. The Governor Of Ondo State.

The two suits sought to stop the conduct of next Saturday’s local government election on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction and abuse of court process.

The Ondo APC, which had earlier declared its intention not to participate in the election, approached the court to stop the poll, saying it was illegal of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct the exercise.

The Director of Media and Publicity, Ondo APC, Steve Otaloro, who said there was no authentic voter register for the election, added that the voter register the electoral body planned to use had not been reviewed.

In her ruling on Thursday, the presiding judge, Justice Folasade Olubanjo, said the court did not have jurisdiction over the forthcoming local government election.

She added that it would amount to judicial pettiness to proceed with the suit when the issues on the sacking of former council chairmen and councillors were still pending before the Supreme Court.
