Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has warned candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state not to take voters for granted during the local government area election.
Makinde issued the warning during a meeting with potential chairpersons and candidates for the May 22 by- elections in the state.
He advised the candidates not to take the voters for granted. The governor, who promised to support the candidates, said the candidates had to work hard to win.
Makinde, who spoke to the candidates on Saturday evening, said candidates should ensure that they work effectively if elected into office.
Makinde’ s statement read; ” As you go to the polls, don’ t underestimate the people. Learn from the mistakes of the previous government.
” When there are problems, solve them peacefully, so that we can all be winners. ”
Rev. Oluwole Alawode who is the representative of the Chairmanship candidates said the candidates were ready for the election.
Alawode, who is currently chairing the Ibadan South- East Local Government, said Governor Makinde, during the closure, had instructed candidates to work hard to win the next election.
He stated; ” Well, we thank God for today. What the governor discussed with us bothered about why we need to put our house in order and work assiduously to deliver our LGs for the party, just the way we did during the 2019 elections.
” We promise the people of Oyo State that we will bring the benefits of democracy to them. We did not fail them in 2019, we keep our promises, and we will keep fulfilling them even now.
” Therefore, we promise that if they can vote for us and we win in all 33 local government areas in the state, by God’ s grace, we will do better for the people.
” To be honest, when it comes to exercise like this, our boss wants us to work hard. He does not want any of us (chairman of LGs) to show laziness in achieving this goal.
” Therefore, that is why the Honorable called us to this meeting and informed us that the only thing that can guarantee us success is hard work. ”
