Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) have been declared governor elect of Imo state by the state INEC Returning Officer after beating his main rival Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA) with over 83,040 votes. He was declared winner after a keenly contested poll with Uche Nwosu who is the Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha’s in-law. Okorocha gave the AA candidate Nwosu his full support but was rejected by Imolites who resisted the efforts of Rochas in building a political dynasty in Imo state.
The Imo state INEC Returning Officer Francis Otunta announced the declaration few minutes before Tuesday midnight.
I, Prof Francis Otunta, Vice Chancellor Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike do hereby announce as follows that Hon Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is officially declared the winner of 2019 Imo Governorship election after polling a total vote of =273, 404 to defeat his rival Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA) who scored 190, 364 and thereby returned elected having fulfilled all constitutional requirements and the electoral act 2010 as amended.
