Lagos Assembly – The Lagos State House of Assembly under the able leadership of Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has successfully mediated between the parents of students in Lagos State Model Colleges and Ministry of Education, reporting Thecitypulsenews
Recall that parents and the ministry have since been at loggerheads concerning the 200% increase in the boarding fees imposed by the later towards the end of 3rd term of last session. The fee was initially increased from N25,000 to N75,000.
After series of dialogue and horse trading between representatives of parents and government officials, the ministry reduced the fee to N50,000.
Still not satisfied with the 100% increase, representatives of parents forum of Lagos State Model Colleges wrote to the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly to kindly intervene.
Mr Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa thereafter directed the House Committee on Education (Ministry), to call the warring factions to a roundtable in order to reach an amicable settlement.
After meetings upon meetings with all Lagos State education officials and representatives of parents forum, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education chaired by Hon. Ganiy Okanlawon(Kosofe 1) signed a joint memorandum of understanding with the parents forum led by Surv. Dawodu, Hon. Commissioner for Education, Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Tutor General/Permanent Secretaries and other critical stakeholders on Tuesday 14th September, 2021.
Part of the agreement reached are that the boarding fees be pegged at N35,000, and that after two consecutive terms of its implementation, the stakeholders involved should come back to a round table to determine propriety or otherwise of the fee, for healthy upkeep of students staying in all the boarding facilities in all the model Colleges in Lagos State.
