Leaders buy party delegates slip and voters card.
Since the start of preparations by all concerned stakeholders in the forthcoming July 22, 2017 Lagos State Local Government election, feedbacks getting to The City Pulse News have all been pointing to a looming disenfranchisement of eligible candidates, party delegates and voters by political actors in the state just like as it happened in the 2015 General Election.
Just now, our attention has been drawn to some leaders in Alimosho, Ojodu, Ikeja, Isolo, Onigbongbo, Isheri, Egbe/Idimu, that they buying delegates voters slip and PVC from those that are just collecting.
Meanwhile, the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise embarked on by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to update the current register of voters nationwide has been marred with fighting and disruption at some designated registration centres in the state.
Cases of some youths disrupting the exercise from going on peacefully and smoothly has been a reoccurring thing. Enthusiastic and patriotic Lagosians who wish to fulfil their civic obligation are beginning to think twice about the eventual outcome of the scheduled LG POLL in the state if they cannot even register for the Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
Also, there is the report of only fifty people being the only ones to be attended to in a full day by INEC officials in some registration centres. Eligible voters are to go to the registration centre as early as possible to obtain a favourable number out of the assigned fifty persons a day.
No doubt, all these are ploys and tactics by the unrepentant and undemocratic politicians who call themselves leaders to discourage mass voters participation in the July 22 LG POLL in the state. Having rubbished the initial confidence reposed in them, they’re bent on deploying every means possible to scuttle the whole exercise and defeat the targeted aim of empowering every Nigerian, Lagosians particularly, with their PVCs.
A Lagos politics monitor and a leader in APC has called on all the numerous media outfits in Lagos State, especially the electronic media, to engage more on grassroot political education and mobilisation.
To all the heads of the Programme Unit in every radio and television station in Lagos, to please enlighten the publics on the need to get a PVC,that the party delegates should not sell there slip or voters card to any so called leaders.
Furthermore he said now is the time to give ample time to airing programmes that will enlighten every Lagosian on their political rights, with a view to emancipate them from the shackles of political manipulation and sidelining.
Also, let’s further propagate the “ONE MAN, ONE VOTE, ONE WOMAN ONE VOTE” electioneering slogan of the immediate past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole which he championed in the state’s 2012 governorship election.
I call on every patriotic Lagosian not to allow themselves to be intimidated by one AREA BOY or THUG sent by enemies of our democracy to disenfranchise them. Let’s join hands to build our democracy. He said.
