Below is a tribute message to Peter Olayinka Odumakin from HRM, Oba, “Dr” (Amb) Adetokunbo Gbadegeshin Okikiola Tejuosho, PhD DPhil Doctor of Philosophy, Olu Orile Kemta Egbaland, says “Our Race Has Lost A Tool And A Voice”
Steven Paul Jobs was an American business magnate who founded Apple. He said in one of his quotes “No one wants to die” Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share no one will ever escape it. Time may dissimilar, Death is very likely the single best invention of life.
No words can express the loss we all feel, but in spite of this, let us be thankful to God for giving us such a true gem of our time. A man who inspired selfless love and sacrifice for his people, a humble yet articulate, coherent and charismatic.
Comrade Peter Olayinka Odumakin played a key role in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) that fought the government of the then head of State Gen Sani Abacha after the annulment of the 1993 Nigerian presidential election. He participated in the struggle that returned democratic to our dear nation Nigeria.
He was among the few voices of the Southern and Middle Belt Leader’s Forum (SMBLF). He was the spokesman of Muhammadu Buhari when he contested the 2011 Nigerian presidential election under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change. Yet when he felt something was not right as expected He became the critic of President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government. Only the brave can take the bull by the horn.
He was a comrade till death, he lived the most desirable part of his life as an activist, not deterred by danger or pain, brave and courageous, so consistent, he minds no menace expressing his strong enthusiasm for his believes.
Egbon Odumakin was a committed fighter for democracy, dedicated activist, outspoken and resolute in his criticism. He was a true defender of whatever ideals and principles he believed in and a patriotic citizen in every sense of the word.
Peter Olayinka Odumakin, you were good at what you do, you stood out even though you only did it for a short while. As you have taken a bow on this world’s stage and been promoted to glory to revel in the presence of your maker.
Even though you have ceased to be with us physically, free from pain and any form of affliction, I can picture you in heaven surrounded by the angels as you regale them with tales of your eventful life, fraught with trials and tribulations from which you emerged.
It is my prayers that the gods will grant your family most especially your aged parents the fortitude to accept your passage. I extend my condolences to your beloved wife and children.
Adieu Comrade Peter Olayinka Odumakin.
You are gone but never will be forgotten, for you surely left an indelible mark in the history books of this country.
