Sen Ibikunle Amosun: The Arrogant Political Don

As momentum gathers towards the 2023 general elections, especially the likely candidates for president, several names and congestures have come up.

Zoning continues to take prominent place in the discuss about the election and if what has continued to be maintained  in several essays about the ruling party, APC concerning the election is anything to go by, then zoning to the South is on the front burner.

The opposition, PDP may not agree with the zoning arrangement of APC as it is obvious that members of  party from the different zones are already going round in what could be termed campaign moves.

As many political figures in APC from the South begin to take their positions and show interest, one person whose name continues to resound and on whose behalf arguments are  being held has not as much as said a word about his ambition.

Sen. Ibikunle Amosun: The Arrogant Political Don

He has remained calm. He has remained almost invisible. And as usual with his style, he has remained mysterious about his plans.

That person is Sen. Ibikunle Amosun .

Those talking about the likely candidature of Sen. Ibikunle Amosun have advanced arguments such as the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Those who are die-hard supporters have x-rayed his great leadership skills and untainted records.

Sen. Ibikunle Amosun’s best-friend relationship with Mr. President over the years has also been widely discussed.
Interestingly, Amosun’s Abuja and Abeokuta homes have played host to men of great political standing in the country who have gone to pledge their loyalty to him in case he is the ‘chosen one’.

In all, Amosun,.in his characteristic nature, has only smiled and asked them all to wait.
Whether Amosun will indeed contest the 2023 presidential election or not, one thing that can be said about him and his nature is that he is a DON.

His critics have called him several things and the most undisputable one is that he is arrogant.

As a Don, Amosun is one of the silent makers of leaders in Nigeria. He has put more men in position than most of the names being bandied about.

The only difference about Amosun’s kingnaking is that he doesn’t make noise about it, he doesn’t have an overbearing attitude about it, he doesn’t make them swear to an oath and he gives them the free hand to explore. All he requires from them is that they maintain the good names they have.

Amosun’s men are all over the place as ambassadors, senators, public servants and even business people. He sows where he does not expect to eat.

But he is arrogant. Yes, he is. At least, that’s how some political gladiators see him.

Amosun has refused to kowtow to anybody since he came into politics. He aligns with other leaders, he confirms to rules that are for the good of all, he gives what is expected of him and even more, but he will not have a political godfather.

In Nigeria where is almost next to impossible not to have a godfather, Amosun has proved that he does not need anybody lording over him to get to any position he wants to attain. He will either wait for the right time or leave it.

Those against him think he is over exaggerating his worth and importance. They see him as being heady. It is offensive to them that he can go on and do what he likes without bending to them. And because most often than not, he can achieve a lot without them, they have tagged him as being arrogant.

Does he care? Not at all. That’s arrogance in a very subtle way.

May be Sen. Ibikunle Amosun has the right to be the way he is. Maybe.

Long before many came to the limelight through politics, Ibikunle Amosun & Co was already making a big name in the accounting world.

So many people might not have had access to the funds they have today if not for political positions and affiliations, but Ibikunle Amosun has been seeing cool money since 1987 when he founded his firm which has been providing specialist services in the areas of accountancy and auditing, taxation, management consultancy, corporate finance, debt management and receivership and also business advisory and support for both local and International businesses.

His firm has worked for oil companies and governments for so long that he became a don in the corporate world a long time before coming to the political world. And has always been a master of the two.
As a Don, he doesn’t talk much. He doesn’t court controversies but he deals swiftly with whatever unbecoming that comes his way. He is in control.

When a Don keeps quiet in the midst of political mutterings, gladiations and movements, there is something brewing.
Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, what’s cooking? The world would like you to come out for once and say something. Shed the toga of misery and ‘arrogance’ and let the world hear you.
