Slain Oyo Rep: Police Arrest Assembly Chief Whip, 4 Other Suspects

The Oyo state police command has arrested another set of five suspects in connection with the murder of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olatoye Temitope popularly called as Sugar.

He was killed during the governoship and state Assembly elections in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Force public relations officer, Mr. Frank Mba, confirmed the arrest of four more suspects in connection with the murder of the lawmaker representing Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency.

He said that one of them was shot while trying to evade arrest. The suspects, according to Mba, are the chief whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Lafisoye Akinmoyede, 54; Alhaji Rafiu Adebayo, 68; Taofeek Adebayo a.k.a Ejo, 39, Alhaji Rasheed Oladele, 66, and Mutiu Oguntola, 28. Oguntola who was apprehended yesterday, was reported to have sustained bullet injuries in the shoulder blade and groin while trying to escape.

Mba said that the suspect was taken to an undisclosed hospital where he was being stabilised. He said: “There are now five suspects in the custody of the Oyo State police command”, saying the suspects may be transferred to Abuja next week. Sugar was shot in the face by suspected gunmen on March 9 in Lalupon and was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH) where he later died at the Intensive Centre Unit (ICU).
